A crown is a cap that covers a tooth too damaged for a filling; a bridge replaces missing teeth by drawing support from neighbours or implants. Both restore function and appearance, and both are made at our own bench, milled, fired and finished by hand, a few steps from the chair.
When a crown is needed
A crown protects a tooth that a large filling can no longer hold: root-treated, cracked or heavily worn teeth. The tooth is prepared, measured with an intraoral scanner, and the restoration is made in our laboratory. No impression trays, no waiting for a box to arrive from across town.
Zirconia and lithium disilicate
Zirconia is prized for strength and a natural look, used across front and back teeth. Lithium disilicate, known as E.max, offers high translucency for front teeth where light matters most. Which material suits you depends on the tooth's position, the bite load and the aesthetic goal. Everything is milled, layered and glazed in-house; nothing is sent out.
A crown milled in the morning is fitted the same afternoon. The laboratory never left the building.
Bridge or implant?
A missing tooth can be replaced by a bridge that leans on neighbouring teeth, or by an implant that stands alone. A bridge means preparing the neighbours; an implant leaves them untouched. Each has its place, decided by the condition of the neighbouring teeth and the bone, and your dentist will explain which serves you better.
How long they last
Well-planned crowns and bridges serve for many years. Systematic reviews report high survival rates for fixed restorations over a ten-year span [1]. The health of the tooth and gum beneath decides the outcome, so brushing, cleaning between teeth and check-ups matter as much as the porcelain itself.
Questions patients ask
Zirconia or E.max, which is better?
Neither is absolutely better; each is strongest in its own place. Zirconia leads on durability, E.max on translucency. The right one for you is chosen by tooth position and goal, at examination.
Will the tooth under a crown decay?
The crown itself cannot decay, but the natural tooth at the gum margin can if hygiene is neglected. Care and check-ups remain essential after a crown, as with any tooth.
How many visits?
With the laboratory in the building, fitting and adjustment are fast. Your personal schedule is confirmed after examination, and your coordinator plans the visit with you.
