Aesthetic dentistry is the craft of shape, colour and proportion: veneers, composite bonding, whitening and complete smile design, brought into harmony with your face. Each has its place, and the right one is chosen for your teeth and your wish, not from a menu. At the atelier, the smile is worked out on screen and approved by you before a single tooth is touched.

Veneer or implant: the core difference

These two are the most commonly confused treatments, yet they solve different problems. A veneer improves a tooth that is already in your mouth; an implant replaces a tooth that is missing altogether. So the honest answer to "veneer or implant?" is usually decided not by preference but by whether the tooth is still there. If the tooth stands but looks wrong, a veneer applies. If the tooth is lost, an implant does. In some smile designs the two are combined: an implant for the gap, veneers on the teeth beside it.

Porcelain veneers

A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth, its colour, shape and surface made to measure at our own bench. Veneers involve removing a limited amount of tooth surface, so the step is not reversible and is decided carefully with your dentist. Shade and form are planned digitally before treatment begins, and the veneers themselves are milled, layered and glazed a few steps from the chair.

Types of veneer

A veneer is not a single method; the type depends on how much tooth structure has been lost. A porcelain laminate veneer is a thin layer on the front surface only, for sound teeth needing minimal reduction. A full ceramic crown covers the whole tooth, chosen where more structure is lost or after root canal treatment. A zirconia-based restoration gives a durable core for back teeth and cases that need strength. Which type suits you is decided by the tooth's position and remaining structure, and the aim is always the most harmonious result with the least loss of natural tooth.

Composite bonding

Bonding builds up tooth-coloured composite directly on the tooth to close small gaps, repair chips or refine shape. It asks for less tooth reduction than porcelain and is often done in a single visit, though it is more prone to staining and wear over time than porcelain. Which approach suits you depends on the result you want and the condition of the tooth.

Designed before it is made

You approve the smile you will wear on screen, before any tooth is prepared. Nothing is left to surprise.

Whitening, done properly

Whitening lifts stains from enamel and dentine with peroxide-based gels, either in the chair under supervision or with custom trays at home. The American Dental Association considers dentist-supervised whitening a safe and effective method [1]. Temporary sensitivity is the most common effect and usually passes quickly. Whitening does not change the colour of fillings or crowns, so the plan is made for the whole smile, not one tooth at a time.

The Hollywood smile, honestly

A complete smile makeover combines several of the above into one designed result. It is powerful, and it is not for everyone: on healthy, well-aligned teeth, less may achieve more. We will show you the plan on screen, explain what each tooth needs, and let you decide with the full picture in front of you.

How long it lasts

Porcelain veneers can serve for many years with good care. Biting hard objects, grinding and neglected hygiene shorten the life of any restoration; a night guard is advised for those who grind. The natural tooth beneath a veneer still needs brushing, cleaning between teeth and regular check-ups.

Questions patients ask

Will my teeth be filed down for veneers?

Veneers involve removing a limited amount of the front surface of the tooth, and how much depends on the case. Because it is not reversible, the decision is made with your dentist after examination. In some suitable cases, more conservative approaches that remove less tooth can be considered.

Does whitening damage teeth?

Supervised whitening at appropriate strength is considered safe; the most common effect is temporary sensitivity that usually passes quickly. Uncontrolled over-the-counter overuse is a different matter, which is why we keep it under a dentist's eye.

Will the result look natural?

That is the whole point. Proportion, colour and character are designed on screen and approved by you first, so the smile suits your face rather than shouting over it.

How many visits will I need?

Composite bonding is often a single visit. Veneers involve planning and laboratory work, so they take a few days across one visit to Istanbul, with the lab inside the building keeping adjustments to minutes.

Veneer or whitening: which should I have?

If discolouration can be lifted by whitening, that is considered first, to protect the tooth. Where whitening is not enough and there is also a shape problem, a veneer comes into play. The choice depends on the tooth and what you want to change.

I have a missing tooth. Can I have a veneer?

A veneer is applied to a tooth that is present; it cannot be made for a completely missing tooth. In that case the gap is assessed for an implant or a bridge. The right option is determined by examination.
