UK pre-consultation before you fly: how it works

Published 17 July 2026· 7 min read

One of the smartest things you can do before travelling for treatment is to have someone check things over while you are still at home. It calms nerves, catches surprises early, and means you arrive in Istanbul already confident in the plan. This is what a UK pre-consultation is for, and here is how it works.

What a pre-consultation is

A pre-consultation is an assessment before you fly, closer to home, that helps confirm you are a good candidate and that the plan makes sense. It bridges the gap between an online enquiry and arriving for treatment. Instead of your first proper examination happening on the day you land, some of that reassurance happens beforehand, while you still have time to ask questions and think.

The point of it

You arrive in Istanbul confident, not uncertain. The big questions are answered before you get on the plane.

Why it matters

Travelling for treatment asks you to commit before you have met anyone in person. A pre-consultation reduces that leap. It means fewer surprises on arrival, a plan you have already discussed, and a chance to raise anything specific to your health or your goals in advance. For anxious patients especially, it turns a daunting unknown into a considered decision.

How our pre-consultation works

We handle the pre-travel stage in two ways that work together. First, a remote consultation where we review your case, your photos and any scans you can provide, and talk you through the likely plan. Second, through our UK partner network, an in-person pre-consultation can be arranged at a partner treatment centre where a face-to-face assessment helps. These are trusted UK partner locations, not our own clinics, and they let some of the groundwork happen before you travel.

What to prepare

To get the most from a pre-consultation, come with the basics ready.

With these in hand, the conversation is far more useful, and your eventual treatment plan is built on real information. You can read what happens once you arrive in our Istanbul travel guide, and how aftercare continues once you return in our UK aftercare article.

What a pre-consultation cannot do

Be realistic about it too. A pre-consultation narrows the uncertainty, but it does not replace the full clinical examination that happens in Istanbul, where 3D imaging and a hands-on assessment confirm the final plan. Think of it as reducing surprises, not eliminating the need for proper examination on site. Sometimes the plan is refined once the full imaging is done, and that is normal and good: it means the treatment is tailored to what is actually there. The pre-consultation gets you most of the way to confidence. The on-site examination completes it. Both together are far better than arriving cold.

How it fits the whole journey

A pre-consultation before you fly and in-person aftercare when you return are two halves of the same idea: care that does not begin and end at the clinic door in Istanbul. Together they mean you are supported at home on both sides of the treatment itself, which is exactly what most patients wish they had.

This article is for general information for prospective patients. It is not a substitute for a clinical examination, and any treatment decision is made by a qualified dentist after assessing your individual case.
